ChangeBreeze Timezone Handling

Change Management
Updated Jan 11, 2026

Overview

ChangeBreeze automatically handles timezone conversions to ensure that change schedules display correctly for all users, regardless of their location. This guide explains how timezones work in ChangeBreeze and what to expect.

Key Principles

Personal Time Zone:

  • Your timezone is set in your user profile based on your location
  • All times you enter in forms are automatically interpreted as being in your local timezone
  • All times displayed to you are shown in your local timezone

Company/Organization Timezone:

Your company or organization has a primary timezone setting
This timezone is used for:
  • Emails sent to multiple recipients (stakeholders, teams)
  • Teams channel notifications
  • Calendar attachments (ICS files)
  • Outlook calendar integration

Single-User Emails

When you receive an email about a change you created, times are shown in your personal timezone. This ensures you see times that match what you entered

How It Works in Practice

Creating a Change

Scenario: You're in Sydney (AEDT, UTC+11) and create a change scheduled for 2:00 AM - 3:00 AM.

  1. You enter the times in the form: 2:00 AM - 3:00 AM
  2. ChangeBreeze converts these to UTC and stores them: 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM (previous day)
  3. When you view the change, it displays back to you as: 2:00 AM - 3:00 AM AEDT

Viewing Changes

What you see:

  • Change detail page: Times in your timezone
  • Your personal emails: Times in your timezone

What stakeholders see:

  • Stakeholder emails: Times in company timezone
  • Teams notifications: Times in company timezone
  • Outlook calendar invites: Times in company timezone

Adding to Outlook

When you click "Add to Outlook" in a Teams notification:
  • The calendar event is created with times in your company's timezone
  • If your company is in AEDT and the change is 2:00 AM - 3:00 AM, Outlook will show exactly that

Note: Outlook may display times in your personal device timezone, but the event is created with the correct company timezone

Timezone Settings

Setting Your Personal Timezone

  1. Go to My Profile by selecting the dropdown menu in the top right of the screen.
  2. Select your timezone from the dropdown under the Preferences Tab
  3. Click Update Preferences
  4. All future times will display in this timezone

Setting Company or Organization Time Zone

Only company / Organization administrators can edit the setting. Contact your administrator if the company timezone needs to be changed.

To edit the time zone enter the Organization settings or Company settings page for a tenant. The Timezone can be adjusted under the Profile Tab.

 Daylight Saving Time

ChangeBreeze automatically handles daylight saving time transitions:
  • Times are stored in UTC (no DST)
  • Displayed times automatically adjust when DST starts/ends
  • No manual updates needed
If you schedule a change for 2:00 AM during daylight saving time, when DST ends and your timezone changes from AEDT to AEST, the time will automatically adjust to 3:00 AM AEST (same UTC moment).

Business Hours Configuration

Your organization can configure business hours to help schedule changes during appropriate times. Business hours are set in your company's timezone and apply to all users in that organization or company. When you're viewing change schedules or planning implementations, the system can highlight whether a scheduled change falls within or outside of business hours. This helps ensure changes are scheduled when appropriate support staff are available.
Business hours settings are managed by your company administrator and typically follow standard working days (Monday-Friday, 9 AM - 5 PM in your company timezone), but can be customized to match your organization's operational schedule.
