What is a Virtual CAB?

A Virtual Change Advisory Board (vCAB) is a configurable group of users who review and approve changes. Unlike traditional CAB meetings, vCAB allows asynchronous voting - members can review and vote on changes at their convenience.

Core Concepts

vCAB Group

A named collection of members with defined voting rules. Each vCAB belongs to a company and can be reused across multiple changes.

Members

Users assigned to a vCAB who can vote on changes. Members have different roles that determine their voting power:

  • Chair - Leadership role with optional special powers
  • Voting Member - Standard voting rights

Voting

Members review the change and cast their vote:
  • Approve - Support the change
  • Reject - Oppose the change (requires comments)

Decision

Based on the vCAB's approval type and voting rules, the system determines when enough votes have been cast to approve or reject the change.

Other Details

Important: When a change is submitted to a vCAB, vote records are created for the members at that moment. If the vCAB membership changes later:

  • Existing votes are preserved - Members who already voted keep their votes
  • Removed members' votes still count - Their decision remains part of the change
  • New members don't affect pending changes - They'll only vote on future submissions

This ensures changes are evaluated consistently based on who was assigned when submitted.
